Course Description

This continuing education course introduces mental health professionals to the evolving role of artificial intelligence (AI) in clinical practice and training. Beginning with a brief history and key concepts—such as hallucinations, parasocial relationships, and agentic AI—participants will build a shared language for understanding this rapidly changing field.

The course examines how AI is already influencing psychotherapy, assessment, and professional training, while also exploring broader implications for communication, social functioning, identity, and ethics. Participants will consider both the potential benefits and risks of AI use, including challenges related to measurement, testing, and research.

Practical examples of AI tools will be presented alongside ethical considerations and recommendations, to support informed, responsible use in clinical settings.
